The university is the oldest, the largest and the top university among all branches of Islamic Azad University academic organization, established in 1982, originally as "Islamic Azad University of Tehran". The university campuses rest on 297,904 m² of various districts of Tehran. It offers approximately 445 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide range of disciplines.

UFM est située à Mashhad au centre de la province de Khorasan-e-razavi de l'Iran. Elle est fondée en 1949, devenant ainsi la troisième grande et ancienne université de l'Iran. Elle est la plus grande université au nord de l'Iran ayant les plus grandes facultés de cette région.

The University of Pennsylvania (Penn) assisted the Iranian government in transforming Shiraz University into the only institution in the Middle East based on American-style higher education. Penn thus became highly influential in shaping many of Pahlavi University's departments and institutions. Shiraz University has the second-biggest campus in Iran. It was initially designed by American architect Minoru Yamasaki, who also designed the World Trade Center.
Shiraz University has pioneered the establishment of doctoral programs in Iran. Presently the university has over 20,000 students, with 200 bachelor's degree programs (B.A., B.Sc.), 300 master's degree programs (M.A., M.Sc.), one professional degree program (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or DVM), and 150 Ph.D. programs.
In 1982 the university was renamed to "Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz" to commemorate Mostafa Chamran.
In 1986, under national legislation, the Schools of Medicine, Health, Dental, Nursing, and Pharmacy, separated off into an independent Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, operated under the supervision of the new Ministry of Health and Medical Education.

The University is said to be the largest educational institution of the northern Iran among the provinces of Mazandaran, Golestan and Qazvin. Also from the structural viewpoint, it is one of the largest universities in the northern parts of Iran and currently has more than 17,000 students enrolled.
University of Isfahan offers undergraduate degrees in 70 fields and graduate degrees in 55 areas. Students can study a wide variety of courses at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral levels full-time and part-time. The University has twelve faculties and forty-five departments,. University of Isfahan includes more than five hundred full-time academic members. The student body consists of 12,000 undergraduate students and 4,500 graduate students from thirty provinces. Undergraduate admission to University of Isfahan is limited to the top 10% of students who pass the national entrance examination administered yearly by the Ministry of Sciences and Higher Education. University of Isfahan has several research centers.
Since its establishment by integration of 27 independent colleges, faculties and institutes of higher education in 1983, the university has evolved into the country’s most eminent university in humanities and social sciences.
The university was founded in 1987,and has witnessed a period of rapid growth ever since. The university has an area of 380 ha with a total building area of 24 ha. It has 400 faculty members and about 15000 students in 180 different fields in Ph.D. (37), Masters (80), and Bachelors (63) levels.

TUMS is ranked as one of Iran's top research universities, with an annual research budget of over 300 billion Rials from the government. The school trains over 13,000 students (40% of whom are women) in over 80 postgraduate programs. The school operates 15 teaching hospitals, is equipped with over 40 libraries, and publishes 34 journals, some in collaboration with academic societies.

Today the university is one of the largest universities of Iran, with faculties of Science, Engineering, Mathematical & Computer Sciences, Persian Literature and Humanities, Psychology & Education, Physical Education & Sport Sciences and Chemistry. The university has two campuses,the main campus is in central Tehran (off Darvazeh-Dowlat and Taleghani metro stations) and one in the Hesarak area of Karaj. The current president of the university is Dr. Mohammad Ali Sobhanallahi.
The university was first founded by Habib Nafisi in 1958 and then developed by Dr. Mohammad Ali Mojtahedi, during the reign of the Pahlavi dynasty. Originally named the Tehran Polytechnic, it began its activities with five engineering departments. Six months before the victory of 1979 Iranian Revolution, Tehran Polytechnic was renamed after the famed Iranian prime minister Amir Kabir (1807–1852). With its expansion, the university now boasts fifteen science and engineering departments, and two other affiliated centers, located in Bandar Abbas and Mahshahr. There are currently around 9,100 students enrolled in the undergraduate and graduate programs. AUT has 480 full-time academic faculty members and 550 administrative employees. This gives AUT the highest staff-to-student ratio among the country's universities. The executive branch consists of four departments which receive active participation from various councils in planning and administering affairs.
AUT has signed mutual agreements with international universities for research and educational collaboration. There is a joint program between AUT and the University of Birmingham.
AUT is one of the leading universities in E-Learning systems in Iran which has begun its activities in 2004.
Amirkabir University is the pioneer of sustainable development in Iran and established the AUT's Office of Sustainability on July 2011. The activities of the Office of Sustainability contribute to AUT's campus by reducing energy consumption, costs, and emissions, and also student coursework, volunteer opportunities for students, as well as research and education academic activities on sustainable development.
The university was established as "The Shahrood College of Mines" (مدرسه عالي معدن شاهرود) in 1973, and was elevated to university status in 1994.Finally, thanks to the efforts and pursuit of university president and the staff at the time and the expansion of different programs and the development of post-graduate levels, another great achievement was gained for the university in that the Development Council of the ministry in a session dated 2002/6/9 announced his agreement with the promotion of the university to Shahrood University of technology,The university currently operates 11 faculties, offering 32 degrees to students at bachelors, masters, and PhD levels.

According to this program approved by the Council of Development in session dated 2002/9/16 and due to the potentials of the university, the number of programs will increase to 93 by the end of the Nation Fourth Program of Development. The university was the first university in Iran and the fourth in the world to offer Robotics Engineering at bachelors level. The university's faculty of mining and agriculture is among the best, offering numerous courses up to the PhD level. The university is among the growing universities in Iran.
