NU has local and international students who receive training in academic disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Northrise is the first University in Zambia to offer online programs.
While Northrise offers a nationally accredited education that is founded upon Christian principles, the university accepts students of all faiths. Enrollment for 2012 was 416 students, with a faculty ratio of 24:1. The total graduates of Northrise University through 2009 were 89.
The university is in partnership with Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa; California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, USA; Shanghai Normal University, China; and Fontys University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.

As a Christian College, the model for the students to follow is Jesus Christ. The principles of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuits, are made known to the students in order to enable them choose what is best for them in life. It is hoped that the education that students receive will assist them in their own personal transformation and in the transformation of the society.
The college offers a three-year primary diploma course. The potential candidates need five credits, including English and Mathematics. The enrolment is one hundred students every year. Boarding facilities are provided.
It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system.

The university opened in April 2008. As of 2011, degrees could be earned in education, development studies, business administration, economics, banking and finance, accountancy and business information technology. In June 2011, student enrollment stood at 386.
Extracurricular activities include rowing, football, basketball, volleyball, bocce ball, the Utopian university magazine, the Social Action Committee and student unions for Catholics and non-Catholics.
In the following year, Forest Rangers were trained. The College has since been growing to cope with the changing demand for natural resource trained staff. By 1963, over 300 Forest Rangers (Certificate holders) and Forest Guards had been trained.
Training for Foresters (Diploma holders) commenced in 1963 with nine (9) students. By the end of 1977, 131 Foresters and one (1) female Forester completed her training successfully signifying that this field was gender friendly. The college has now been upgraded with equipment, facilities and staff.
Mathematics, Statistics, Finance
It has three campuses at Chibombo, Chipata and Woodlands. It was founded in 1984. It offers Bachelors and master's degrees as well as research programmes. The university is currently participating in a nationwide Zambian government programme to train 2,000 new mathematics teachers.
