South East European University (SEEU), is a university located in Tetovo, Republic of Macedonia, with a branch campus in Skopje. It is the first private-public not for profit university in Macedonia. It was founded in October 2001 and is a member of the Balkan Universities Network and an associate member of the European University Association. SEEU is a recognized and accredited autonomous higher education institution which was established by an agreement between international donors, the government of the Republic of Macedonia and the local academic community. Its principal original aim was to offer for the first time in Macedonia the opportunity for speakers of the Albanian language to participate in accredited higher education in the Albanian language, while being open to all. The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Gjorge Ivanov awarded “The Order of Merit for Macedonia”to the South East European Universityon Friday 18 November 2011, in a solemn ceremony. On this occasion President Ivanov said that SEEU became a strong promoter of tolerance, respect for multilingual and cultural diversity in teaching and research, developing curricula with an international perspective, and that it contributes significantly to the progress of scientific thought and interethnic understanding. SEEU today concentrates on offering high quality higher education and research opportunities in three languages (Albanian, Macedonian and English) with increasing concentration on subjects taught in English at both first (BA/BSc) and second (MA/MSc/LLM) cycle. Moreover, in the first national ranking of universities in the Republic of Macedonia, in February 2012, SEEU was ranked second out of nineteen higher education institutions according to a ranking system conducted by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University in collaboration with the country’s Ministry of Education and Science. This ranking supports SEEU’s objective of pursuing excellence and equality in higher education.

SEEU is the largest private-public not for profit university, with the highest number of students in Macedonia. It has many established links with universities in Europe, the United States and elsewhere.

The European University-Republic of Macedonia (Macedonian: Европски универзитет-Република Македонија, Evropski univerzitet-Republika Makedonija) is a university in Skopje, Macedonia.

History of The European University –Republic of Macedonia begins with the foundation of The Faculty of Social Sciences in 2001. The activities at The European University were recognized on 01.06.2005 when it was accredited by The Accreditation Board of Republic of Macedonia. Based on that, The European University-Republic of Macedonia is the first and the only private accredited university in the region which offers a modern education and which permanently develops and awards the process of acquiring knowledge according to the modern world educational trends.

The following 2006 is impressive in founding and accreditation (November 2006) of three new faculties: Faculty of Communication and Media, Faculty of Public Administration and The Faculty of Art and Design. Until then there were two faculties-The Faculty of Economic Sciences and The Faculty of Informatics which satisfied the growing needs for modern education in The Republic of Macedonia and the region.

Besides that, the same year (18.05.2006) based on the decision number 12 of The Accreditation of Republic of Macedonia, the adequacy of the programs of The European University according to the European standards of the 3+2 module of studying was confirmed. In the beginning of 2009 The European University - Republic of Macedonia made an elaborate for application of the solutions and the provisions of the new act for high education.
