Today, professional, technical and academic courses at certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and degree levels are being offered at FIT through the Faculty of Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FCHTS), the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and Maritime Studies (FASEMS) and the Faculty of Humanities, Communications and Creative Arts (FHCCA). FIT has over 20,000 students enrolled in over 120 programmes on all 4 campuses. It is one of the largest face-to-face deliverer of tertiary education in the South Pacific.
In 2009, FIT established three research centres, aimed at advancing core clusters of research that are relevant to Fiji and the Pacific :
The Centre for Applied Economic Research aims to undertake applied research in all areas related to economic development of Fiji.
The Centre for Sustainable Technology and Development aims to enhance research and development work in all areas of technology for development.
The Centre for Drama and Creative Arts aims to enhance all aspects of drama and visual & creative arts.
The current Director of FIT is Dr. Ganesh Chand who was also recently appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Fiji National University.

FNU now has campuses and centres at 33 locations throughout the country, running a total of approximately 30 different courses and programmes with a staff complement of more than 1800 and in January 2012, hitting a record student enrolment of more than 20,000.

As the premier medical institute in the South Pacific, FSM has been educating Health Care Professionals since its establishment in 1885 as Suva Medical School to train vaccinators. The School has produced many motivated and skilled health care professionals who are now serving in key positions in the Pacific and overseas.
The school now provides training in most health science disciplines including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, radiography, laboratory technology, public health, health services management, dietetics and environmental health.

The University of Fiji honoured its first graduates in March 2008. Fiji's President Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu, who is also the University's Chancellor, spoke at the graduation ceremony, and commended the university for making it compulsory for all students to follow basic courses in Fijian and Hindi: “Our future depends on our ability and desire to understand each other better, to communicate with each other better, and to assist each other. Being able to communicate in each other’s language is vital for this.” Fijian is the language of the country's majority ethnic group, while Hindi is the main language of the largest ethnic minority.
It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system.
